Everything in the Mulberry Garden is coming up roses. The children's novel "The Secret Garden" by F.H.Burnett (one of my timeless favorites) came into reality for the spring summer 2010 collection. A wonderfully whimsical world where nothing is quite as it seems.

Today's preview of the ss 11 collection was all about charms, iconic details & playful surprises.

Oh so Mulberry!!

Decadent glamour, reworked classics & powder pink entries are all in the mix. A modern mix like the fresh animal/leather edition of Alexa, the current worldwide "it" bag. Timeless silhouettes (Bayswater), butter soft leathers, trompe l'oeil metal details & florals.

A YEAR AGO

I was in a shopping hysteria downtown. The phone rang.

Unknown number + I didn’t recognize the man’s voice at once…

- Hey, How are you?
- Fine, and you? Who is it?
memory gap, but he told me not his name
- I’ m calling to let you know that you’ll be featured in the anniversary issue of Vogue March.
- hmmm Who is it? (angrily - I thought somebody has making fun of me)
- It’s Alex, from Mtv (we works also for Liberis Publications)
- (frozen, I felt SO stupid)

Few weeks later, at King George hotel, I met Sadra, Viviana + mr. Vasmoulakis .

Eva Georgiou along with Iris Leontariti did the styling. However, everybody could choose his/her likes, so what you see is our personal style pampered! I wore a sur mesure dress by Andreas Avgheris (very good friend of mine & upcoming designer). Stellar did my oh so sleek hair and Maria the make up.

Fun Fact: I met Costas & Mariaflora few months after the magazine was published!

Just minutes ago, @fashmarketing tweeted about a blog post from Marie Claire’s editor Maura Kelly where she monologues about “fatties”. For example, she compares an obese with an alcoholic or a drug addict & then she adds that “I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room”.

An American series was the occasion for the torrential expression of disgust for overweight people as Kelly criticized the show for promoting obesity. Over 28,000 email responses & 1700 answers to the blog piece, since October 25^th. The “news” spread quickly and even Advertising Age site, blogged about Marie Claire's Biggest Loser.

So the issue of obesity in & out of the "fashion world" returns. Despite the campaigns for "real size" models, the efforts of designers to avoid anorexic models, fashion industry continues to shrink the size numbers "6 is the new 14" as mentioned in the film Devil wears Prada. Plus, thousands of diets, nutritional supplements, pills are designed to help “us” obtain the desired body.

and then think about it... What’s the real problem of being “fattie”? Is it only a matter of appearance?

Once, the high weight was a sign of prosperity and wealth. Today, weight is a matter of anxiety, way of life or even indifference. I am not a nutritionist, but I’ve being following diet plans since I was dancing & I had to lose only 1 or 2 kg 14 years old.

Therefore, I realised that normal weight is not only a matter of appearance but also a matter of health. Obtaining normal weight means preventing many health problems, cardiovascular diseases, and having serious help for the rehabilitation of orthopedic problems.

Wearing fashionable pieces or being beautiful is not a factor for “choosing” a healthy (not skinny) body. Mental and physical health is everything. And this is NOT just another cliché.

PS. I could write & overwrite about the weight issue but this post is just ringing the bell for everyone!

Green Design Festival took place last weekend in Syntagma square. The Swap Not Shop team, along with Chic & Ethic Lab organised a diy playground and we spend the afternoon re-creating, re-using & recycling clothes!

My Beauty Basics

Salut!

As I've told you before, my blog will be more personal from now on. So, let me introduce myself by presenting you all my favorites. Make up basics for today!

The Base:

#I RARELY wear foundation. Thus, I've chosen Unifiance for the "special make-up days" as for it's light texture & naturalness. Plus, my skin is very sensitive so a foundation cosmetic from the chemist was the only choice.

#When it comes to concealer Dermablend is ma best gal, fullstop! (However, a make up artist once told me that dark circles tend to make a woman look sexier... )

#For skin irritations, red marks & moisturizing the 8 hour cream is a Mi-ra-cle. Go for the balm, as it's regenerating action is irreplaceable and keep in mind that you can use it all over the body (heels, elbows, chapped skin, etc.)!

The eye - effect:

#As a basic eyeshadow I use either a brown shade for warm colour makeup, or grey for a cold one! Then combine it with other colours or textures for that "i've-put-tones-of-eyeshadow-but-made-no-difference" look, you usually see on me!

Lash Lust

#Even my make up is concealer, blush, lip butter I can't leave without Masc'ara! I want the bold-mysterious-sexy-funny-girly look. L'oreal's is a 1st choice as it's removable with water (no black marks next morning) & then the Lash Queen, recent bought inspired by shopping therapy's post about mascaras!

You make me blush:

#My all time favorite since high school Incognito for a natural healthy look.

#Mac's gleeful is good for the glamorous-dazzling effect, perfect for pale skins!

Please summer don't go:

#Terracotta: it's you, the sun, a mascara & me! I adore my new Pupa as you can choose or mix several glitter bronzer colours for that baked-from-the-sun effect!

Kiss my lips:

#A deep red, a purple & a rose one. BASICS! And yes the dark one is not scary ( scroll down here LFoF's AXDW post)

I was lucky enough to attend a private viewing of Sex & the City 2, hosted by Valuecom! Flashing shoes, desserts & the Arabian excessive luxury got me "Carried away". However, in my opinion it was not Carrie the shiny one, but Samantha. Her lines, act & presence were the most intriguing ones. I won't say more as some of you may not have seen it!

Generally, the movie takes 147', kind of long. It was West Cooler , was refreshing, tasty & delicious. It!

We all enjoyed the movie drinking West Cooler, a beverage made of wine and fruit flavourings.

Now that I think about it, who drinks Cosmo in the dessert? Nobody.

That makes West Cooler the perfect SATC saffari drink!

Fashion Against Breast Cancer

It was like a blast from the past....

Years ago Bella Adamopoulos, Vanessa, Yvette, Vivian Galanopoulou, Jenny Economou and Arianna Dimitropoulou where shining on the runway..

On Monday 1st of March they returned for a good cause..... Europa Donna Hellas, the Foundation against breast cancer organised a charity ball in Grande Bretagne's Ballroom hosted by Mrs Helena Kountoura.

The Ladies walked for the spring show "Sweet Cocktail" of the famous House "JUPE".

Pastel colors, gray, sand, pink along with 60's inspired patterns were combined with huge hats & headbands by Katerina Karoussos. Designer Miltos proved to be very sweet & talented.

The event brought together many individuals from business and medical area. The presentation was made by Maria Stamateri. The evening ended with a live performance from Yvette with the song "I will survive" devoted to her sister who recently migrated to the skies.

Everyone that follows my blog knows that I was working for a short period of time at FFG.... Well, I was very surprised to see that such a 'big' event was taking place there as I always thought their marketing moves were quite poor. Fellow bloggers Thalia aka lifeinathens.com , Chloe in the sky with diamonds & her bf Lost in rainbows plus lovely Queen Bee were there too. We watched the show followed by a gig by Matisse.

The clothes presented were from fall/winter 2009.... I try to understand which was the purpose of the show..? Obviously, to attract a couple of celebrities!

Thus, I decided not to post a bunch of photos as I usually do, but share with you 2-3 moments...

This model is a 17 year old girl from Holland. We met her after the show with Thalia & Queen B.

Above you can see Ioanna from Next Top Model. Such a beauty!!!!

The styling and the set were quite interesting. Tassos Sofroniou was the head of director for the project so we couldn't expect something less!!!!!! I love his work... you can see a part of it here.

My very first post for the www.fashionpaths.com blog has to do with Christoforos Kotentos' fashion show for Next Top Model. It took place on the 1st of February @ Athinais. The producer was Ant1 channel, so you can understand that neither journalists nor celebrities where there. This catwalk was their last trial and I was lucky (?) enough to have a good seat for photos.

I must admit Christoforos Kotentos jumped off the runway with his creations, as the outfits we saw where original and incredibly inspired! My style may be far away from his but I can't hide that there were several dresses I loved. After the show, there was also a cocktail party with finger food!

I first met him few days after his winning show at Athens Fashion Week.
One thing I can certainly say about him: he's so down to earth & has a huge appetite for work!

Full name: Evangelos Kavathas

Age: Being born on 1983 makes me 26

Location: I leave in Athens

How did you get into fashion? How and when everything started? I didn't really plan on getting into fashion. It was approximately four years ago when I got involved into the retail business when I realised that there was a creativity side of me that could be expressed through fashion design. Ever since, everything seems to be fallen into place.

Did you go to design school? What did you like or dislike about your educational experience?

No I didn't go to a design school. I cannot say what I like or dislike about my educational experience (but I can surely say it has very little things in common with fashion and design).

About your first shoot . When was it? For which magazine ? What are the memories you still have from it? My first shoot was for "YOUNG magazine". It was part of my accessories collection in 2006. I was thrilled and excited when three years ago my accessories have been included in "YOUNG magazine". The first shoot ever .

What makes you enthusiastic, motivates you and inspires you? (What are your strongest sources of inspiration? Most unusual ? )

My work itself exist me.I am inspired by music; the healthy and female figure triggers my creativity me and the view from my balcony, as very fruitful inspirational source.

Do you sketch as part of your design process? Always sketching is the first encounter with the finishing product. In a way it gives entity to the ideas that pop up in my head.

What kind of fabrics do you use & why? Materials that are soft to the skin and give a feeling of smoothness are my top preferences of fabrics. Cashmere, silk and cotton do that for me.

Who are your favourite designers? I like Armani with his sophisticated simplicity, the expressionist to my eyes Alexander McQueen while Dries Van Notten will always be at the top of my list.

Must-have product in your collection? If responsibility and good quality materials qualify as "product" then this answers it.

What do you do during the day? I try to seize it

What is your personal style like? Casual chic describes it best

Do you listen to music when you design? If yes, what kind of music?

With the exception of metal and "bouzouki" almost every other genre of music is always part of the design process. Now that you mention it I don't think I spent much time during the day without listening to music either.

Where can people find your work?

I am always available with appointment at my atelier 11 Miltiadou Street, Athens-Greece

About your future plans? Be well and continue doing what I love most.

Evangelos Kavathas does women & men collections too! He won the first prize @ Next Generation competition of Athens Fashion Week s/s 2010 and so he participated in the global contest of IAF (International Federation of Clothing) in November in India. Evangelos got the Second Prize and... We are so proud about that!

Looking forward for his future work... I believe we have many things to wait for!

Recently I paid a visit to Maria Mastori's Atelier... As you saw on my events column she held a bazaar, so I found the opportunity to buy 3 amazing pieces! 2 rings and a necklace... She was very sweet & kind enough to let me share with you some photos.... Here are some of the spots I liked and the pieces I loved!

What I liked most on the jewelry was the combination of materials and diversity designs. Maria Mastori is a very talented designer. The volume of her designs demonstrates dynamism and the combination of materials does forming a romantic effect. As most of you already know, Maria Mastori is part of a duo along with Filep Motwary who does the clothes & shoes. Together they make perfection!

Today was the annual memorial for Alex. The 15 years old kid who lost his life a year ago from a policeman's bullet. [...] Riots take place again this year and I can't stop wondering... All those people who don't stay in protesting -but also put on fires, start fights & break everything they find on their way-, do they think they honour his memory like that??

A couple of months ago, while brainstorming for the blog -yes I do that a lot-, I thought about a project where fashion could be combined with architecture. So I asked Fotis & Vaso (fashion paths readers & architecture students) to transform a simple t-shirt into an art piece! They could do whatever they wanted to.... and as you 'll see after the jump, their work is extraordinairy! (at the end there is a translation for greek readers)

What are these elements that characterize the woman today? A woman shares her time daily, in a household that always needs more order, an office that requires more effort, a family requested more time, a companion who claims her completely in a secret complicity, and an interminable journey for her appearance and the time passes. A woman today, approaching a supernatural figure, leaves behind her naive and the decorative mood in order to claim an important position in society. Our target was to show this change in the requirements a woman has to respond today… Between desire and excess, we tried to turn the femininity into something much more defined. Curves, the most characteristic element of the female fihure, have subjugated in something tough, which in our own case was translated in a hard, new, cubic relief. The cubic breasts, the intense shoulders and the revelation of her real body, are a powerful “weapon” she never renounces. Her decorative disposal and the exaggerated grooming are not lost, as a piece of the top was removed from its basic structure, trying to distinguish, to escape, changing the top in something much more uncomfortable – dedication to her lost freedom. This is the image of women today. Maybe tomorrow, maybe after many years… until this image decides to change itself, to be re-defined. Has maybe the time to claim our ambiguous identity come?

ΜΠΛΟΥΖΑ ΠΑΝΟΠΛΙΑ

Ποια είναι τα στοιχεία αυτά που χαρακτηρίζουν τη γυναίκα σήμερα; Μια γυναίκα μοιράζει το χρόνο της καθημερινά σε ένα νοικοκυριό που πάντα χρειάζεται περισσότερη τάξη, ένα γραφείο που απαιτεί περισσότερη προσπάθεια, μία οικογένεια που ζητά περισσότερο χρόνο, ένας σύντροφος που την διεκδικεί ολοκληρωτικά σε μια μυστική συνενοχή, και ένα ατέρμονο ταξίδι για την εμφάνιση της και το χρόνο που περνά. Μια γυναίκα σήμερα, πλησιάζει μια υπερ-ηρωική μορφή που άφησε πίσω την αφέλεια, και τη διακοσμητική διάθεση για να διεκδικήσει μια σημαντική θέση στην κοινωνία. Στόχος μας ήταν να δείξουμε αυτή την αλλαγή στις απαιτήσεις που έχει να ανταποκριθεί η γυναίκα σήμερα... Ανάμεσα στην επιθυμία και την υπερβολή, προσπαθήσαμε να αλλάξουμε την θηλυκότητα με κάτι πολύ πιο απόλυτο. Οι καμπύλες το κατεξοχήν χαρακτηριστικό της γυναίκας υποτάχθηκαν σε μία αυστηρότητα , που στη δική μας περίπτωση μεταφράσθηκε σε ένα σκληρό , νέο , κυβικό ανάγλυφο. Τα κυβικά στήθη, οι έντονοι ώμοι και η αποκάλυψη του πραγματικού της σώματος, ένα ισχυρό όπλο που δεν απαρνήθηκε ποτέ. Η διακοσμητική της διάθεση, ο υπερβάλλων καλλωπισμός δεν χάθηκε, καθώς από τη βασική δομή της μπλούζας, ένα κομμάτι αφαιρέθηκε, αποφάσισε να ξεχωρίσει, να ξεφύγει, μετατρέποντάς το σε κάτι πολύ πιο ανήσυχο κα δραστήριο - ένα ανάθημα στη χαμένη ελευθερία. Αυτή είναι η εικόνα της γυναίκας σήμερα. Ίσως και αύριο, ίσως και μετά από πολλά χρόνια….έως ότου ίσως αποφασίσει να αλλάξει, να επαναπροσδιορισθεί. Ήρθε μήπως το πλήρωμα του χρόνου για την διεκδίκηση της αλλοτινής μας ταυτότητας;

It's quite sad for designers like Luella to face such problems. I don't know about you but personally I love her fairy tale dresses & skirts. The sweet details, the frills & the florals.
If you always wanted to purchase a Luella piece, I believe now it's the right time to do it as the prices are quite reasonable...

In a friendly & cozy atmosphere the WhiteBox crew organized the perfect Sunday afternoon! A warm welcome along with tea, cake, wine & small bites was waiting for everyone passing the 5th floor's door!

For the Love of a JIMMY CHOO Dream!

Today, it was THE day!

The release of the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection took place this morning....

Of course I was there @ Ermou street about 8.20! Not for the Love Of Jimmy Choo but because I was on my way to work!

While I was walking straight to H&M I saw a crowd of women craving for a pass-bracelet! I was lucky enough to get one for 10.30 shop-hour it was blue!... but then I thought "What the hell??"

I had to be late at work, wait among other people that wanted desperately a pair of Choos and I would end up having an extremely low quality pair of killer heels ONLY BECAUSE the label was JIMMY CHOO.

Sorry, but I'm not (such) a fashion victim.

I gave the bracelet back to the sales assistant. The look in her eyes : UNDESCRIBABLE

At 8.30:

Later on, about 14.00 I went back to see what happened! Of course I was sure there would be no stock but I was lucky enough to see the visual shoes in a closer view thanks to the security who was very kind! He told me everything had left till about 10.30. (My bracelet hour!)

FYI: When I saw the shoes it was like looking at a MIGATO pair of heels! (no offense)

Later I will upload a photo of a girl who purchased a pair of ponyskin heels & a blouse!

I think you don't need any introduction about "who is Angelos Fretzos"....

Now, I have to confess something...

My dear readers,

When I saw Mr. Fretzos's show I was kind of 'negative' towards his s\s collection... and today, after a week I discovered the reason... I was too exhausted that day and the show took place at the peak of my tiredness! This is why, I felt something was missing in the room... Talking about my lost energy of course..

Today as I was looking at the photos to prepare the post, I realised that this collection was one of my favorites at AXDW. Industrial style but not industrial cuts, nu rock with a twist! I fall in love with many of the pieces as they were all wearable with lots of extreme work but not something "too much or tacky". The colour palette was in a dark mood, but who said summer is all about flowers & butterflies??

Let it Rock!!!

Mr. Fretzos if you ever read this post please send me a copy of the music, a pair of heels & a leather jacket! (no, I haven't confused the designer with Santa Claus)

CELEBRITY SKIN by Dimitris Strepkos & Eleni Mparla s/s 2010 AXDW

As you have already understood, I can't stop posting photos from Celebrity Skin's fashion show...

IMMORTAL EXTRAVAGANZA.... Those two words can perfecty describe what we saw from stylists & now designers Dimitris Strepkos & Eleni Mparla... Black & Nude ruled the catwalk with the exception of a red piece that definately rocked! During the show, a video presentation was running too but without grabbing our attention from the actual runway..

Overstyling was the keyword! I believe that Dimitris & Eleni used their stylist skills to create REAL -and not wanna be- fashion extravaganza. A show, so perfectly organized with attention to every detail that can easily compared with international,well known ones!!
Volume, details, and a lot of hard work along with delicate pieces!

Models were like to jump of the runway in an iMMortal way!

By far an excellent job!!!!!

....And for those wondering if the clothes are wearable or not.. Dimitris (best extravaganza humor in the greek fashion industry) gave me the answer... You can't wear all pieces at once, but one -or few- at a time... After all, it was all about immortal extravaganza!

This was my first Nikos & Takis experience... It seems a lot of hard & detail work took place for the show! However, I have no words to describe the folklore prints & flashing colours!

Still wondering who will wear the blue roses + yellow backround!!!!!!

tip: 1.Folk singer Lefteris Pantazis as a model on catwalk!
2.The bird in last model's head: Reminded me of Rio de Janeiro's carnival parade!

Sorry for being so late doing this post.... but I was running out of time all those days! Wish a day had about 40 hours!!!
Also the 4th day of FASHION WEEK ATHENS, it was a bar hair day for my camera.... So please don't blame "her" for the bad quality photos...

Concerning the DELIGHT show...

The girls (Evi Retziou & Daphne Iliaki) have an individual personal style which is characterised by structured lines! Bold Kaleidoscope graphic prints were everywhere -in the right amounts- as the theme of the show! For me the pale colours combined with back shapes were a mixture of spring romantism along with pure geometry !
I feel that Daphne & Evi will keep our interesting high in the future as they seem to have established from now their own new DELIGHT style!! Congrats girls!!

My dear readers,

Dimitris Petrou touched my inner side a year ago with his DEBU10 collection and he managed to do it again this year with the TRUE collection!!

Well it's TRUE, that fashion paths adore rock but clean elements in combination with romantic details! I want you to be judgemental, however, it's difficult not to be impressed by the absolutely perfect tailoring and the creativity that Mr.Petrou presented for once more..

Makis Tselios could be named as an oldschool designer as he counts many years in the greek fashion industry! It was the first time I saw a show of his, and I must say that I am impressed as the pieces I like most were.... the wedding gowns!!
If you know me personally you can understand why I say that... For those who don't, let me inform you that I'm very young to think of "my wedding day" and also the wedding idea in general is far away from my thoughts!

So here are the pieces I fell in love with:

tip: The high socks combined with shorts in men's wear! So Dandy style! Thumbs up!

Not many words can describe how talented Dimitri Zafiriou is!!!!
I saw his work a year ago when he presented his collection at the new comers show! He definately rocks!!!!
Original creations, absolutely fashionable pieces, perfect fitting!
Bold statement colours made it one of the best shows in fashion week! From pastels to flame red and then back to black he did it work!!!!

Julia Bergovich s/s 2010 @ fashion week athens

Julia Bergovich is an industrial brand! I came in touch for the very first time a few days ago in the United Fashion Brands SoRoom @ Technopolis!

Now... Concerning the show, although the clothes were all wearable, happy, colourful, simple & chic, there was something wrong! The fitting.... And I can make no excuse about that! Some clothes were too large for models, in some others the inner zips were very obvious and they looked strange when girls were walking... Well, you can't judge that from the pictures, as you should be there, to see it in a closer view... but this is my opinion!

In general, they made a good effort!!

tip: Thumbs up for the fluffy dogs, they were very very sweet & cheerful!

The event took place in a dark room, full of the city's most fashionable crowd! Walls were covered by the collection photos while friends of Angelos were wondering around in his new amazing creations!!

I spotted Angelos having a drink in an excellent party mood, he is sooooo sweet and genuine talent!

In Kathy Heyndels we saw it all.... Black & White, Red, Green, Animal Prints, Photo-like Prints, lace details... A collection that can cover any style!!! I loved the rock details in pieces like the jacket combined with a studded belt, and also the print dress which is so me!!!

Either maxy or mini... everything was so hot ! ! !

tip : I ADORE the headbands that all models were wearing! They were chic & funny at the same time!
